Mission
To transform existing resources into tools that connect the most vulnerable residents of D.C. with housing that reflects the justice we seek for our city, and to partner with local churches in pursuit of this vision.
We hear from churches in the city that their hearts have been broken for their neighbors with housing insecurity. There is a deep desire to help, but lack of direction or guidance on how to do so. Individual churches across the city already do great work in this space, and have a hunger to unite with like-minded groups doing similar work.
We aim to provide pathways for these churches to come together, assess their resources, and discern what part they can play. Churches are different—they have different resources, gifts, and contexts—so how each church meets their community’s housing needs will likely be unique. However we believe all churches can do something, and can support one another as they do.
“Together, churches have the power to meaningfully contribute to closing the city’s affordable housing gap.”
Vision
A just city where everyone has a home
We long to see a city where the vision presented in the end of Isaiah 65 becomes a reality. Where those who build houses can afford to dwell in them. Where those who labor and toil are able to reap the rewards of their hands. We seek a thriving city in which all those who chose to can dwell.
Justice Housing
We seek more than simply affordable housing; we seek a more holistic picture of justice housing.
We first heard the term "Justice Housing" from Jubilee Housing and felt it perfectly captured our vision of what housing should look like. Our idea of justice housing is not only affordable to households with extremely low incomes, it is also sustainable, accessible, safe, and located in areas of opportunity. Justice housing upholds and reflects human dignity. It honors each person as an image-bearer of God. And it affirms the right of every individual to have a healthy place to call home.
Values
integration
We believe that neighborhoods composed of people of diverse backgrounds, races, incomes, and lifestyles reflect the Kingdom of God and offer fuller lives for all residents.
justice
We believe in housing that reflects justice; housing that is not only affordable but also sustainable, accessible, safe, healthy, and located in areas of opportunity.
collaboration
We believe that local churches are uniquely positioned and equipped to meet needs in their communities, and that by working together, churches in D.C. can play an instrumental role in remedying the city's lack of justice housing.
people-oriented model
Our vision seeks to affirm the humanity of each person; our work strives to fulfill needs identified by community members themselves, not perceived from outside.
