What unique role can churches play in meeting D.C.'s affordable housing needs?

Just Homes is a housing initiative of The District Church that seeks to connect the most vulnerable residents of the District of Columbia with Justice Housing. As followers of Jesus, committed to stewarding our God-given resources in a way that embodies a gospel vision, we long to see a just city where everyone has a home. We work to make this vision a reality by advocating for Justice Housing development on vacant church-owned land, investing locally in Justice Housing endeavors, and serving low-income households in our community as they make their house a home. We invite, equip, and aspire to empower other churches to join us in this work.

What's YOUR role?

ADVOCATE

Churches in D.C. own enough vacant land to house nearly all of the 31,000 extremely low-income families without adequate housing in our city. Just Homes supports churches in overcoming the obstacles they face in transforming that land into Justice Housing.

INVEST

Financing is a major barrier to Justice Housing development. Just Homes educates churches and individuals in tools of financial stewardship such as community banking and impact investing products designed to support the development of Justice Housing across D.C.

SERVE

Low-income households face numerous challenges while transitioning into stable, affordable homes. Just Homes supports households transitioning into permanent, independent living by connecting them to peer mentorship & moving assistance.
