Just Homes is a housing initiative of The District Church that seeks to connect the most vulnerable residents of the District of Columbia with justice housing. As followers of Jesus, committed to stewarding our God-given resources in a way that embodies a gospel vision, we long to see a just city where everyone has a home. We work to make this vision a reality by helping build justice housing on vacant church-owned land, investing locally in justice housing endeavors, and serving low-income households in our community as they make their house a home. We invite, equip, and aspire to empower other churches to join us in this work.
“They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat.”
What’s your role?
BUILD
Churches in D.C. own enough vacant land to house nearly all of the 30,000 extremely low-income families without adequate housing in our city. Just Homes supports churches in overcoming the obstacles they face in transforming that land into justice housing.
INVEST
Financing is a major barrier to affordable housing development. The District Church is investing its financial resources in innovative tools designed to support the development of housing affordable to low-income populations across D.C. and invites other churches and individuals to do the same.
SERVE
Low-income households face numerous challenges while transitioning into stable, affordable homes. Just Homes supports households transitioning into permanent, independent housing by connecting them to peer mentorship & moving assistance.
